Jakob Ellemann-Jensen takes over the chairmanship of the Danish Committee for Ukraine. Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, former chairman of the Venstre party, assumes the role as chairman of the Danish Ukraine Committee from Søren Pind. Ellemann-Jensen, who has previously been strongly involved in Ukraine as Minister of Defense, is now returning to a central role in supporting the country. The Danish Ukraine Committee, established in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, primarily aims to gather financial support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia, primarily for weapons. Ellemann-Jensen stated that it was an easy decision to accept the position, as it is important not to forget the war in Europe. Ellemann-Jensen has a personal connection to the matter, as he himself was a deployed soldier in the 1990s. It was the outgoing chairman and co-founder, Søren Pind, who approached Ellemann-Jensen with the request to take over the position. Pind believes that new forces with both military and political experience can bring renewed dynamism to the committee. Since its establishment, the committee has raised over 70 million kroner, and Ellemann-Jensen’s new role as chairman is unpaid. After withdrawing from Danish politics in October 2023, where he was on sick leave due to stress, Ellemann-Jensen has kept a low profile and only been involved in minor radio work. He emphasizes that he has no plans to return to Danish politics. Ellemann-Jensen, who has also served as Minister of Defense and Minister of Economy, says that his future career plans are still open, and that he wants to focus on meaningful tasks that make a difference.
