Several musicians have received threats ahead of the premiere of DR’s documentary on sexism in the music industry. According to Thomas Sandberg, the spokesperson for the Danish Musicians’ Union (Dansk Musiker Forbund), there have been multiple instances where musicians were threatened with serious consequences if they chose to participate in the series. Sandberg stated to Ekstra Bladet that it is still too early to say how the threats will impact the musicians’ opportunities for gigs and record contracts.
The documentary series, which focuses on sexism in the music industry, includes interviews with over 150 individuals. However, many of them chose not to come forward due to fear of potential consequences. The series particularly highlights 13 female musicians who share their experiences of harassment and sexism. One of the participants is the rapper Filuka, also known as Fiona Celeste Spang Bergsøe. She told Ekstra Bladet that she had already received threats on social media before the documentary’s premiere. Filuka does not wish to point out individuals, but hopes that the documentary will shed light on the more fundamental structural issues and contribute to changing the music industry from within.
