Troels Lund Poulsen: I can easily combine the ministry and the presidency, says Venstre (Liberal Party) leader and defense minister Troels Lund Poulsen, rejecting the notion that his job as defense minister detracts from his role as Venstre leader. This statement comes in response to concerns raised by party colleague Søren Gade on election night last Sunday, where he felt that the workload could be too much. At the People’s Meeting (Folkemødet), Troels Lund Poulsen expressed his confidence in his own work capacity. “I am in the fortunate situation that I can handle many things at once,” he said. Gade had been concerned about whether Poulsen could find time to both be deputy prime minister and Venstre leader, but Poulsen assures that he is capable of handling both roles. The Venstre leader has repeatedly highlighted his great work capacity. “I am also able to be defense minister, and I am also able to be the leader of Venstre,” he emphasizes, expressing his joy over Venstre’s strong result in the European Parliament (EP) election, where the party became the largest conservative party.
When asked if he is looking for a new ministerial position, Troels Lund Poulsen responds clearly: “No, I am not planning any cabinet reshuffles. I am focused on my own work and am pleased that Venstre is now the largest conservative party, and that we have also made a good start in the government cooperation we continue to work towards delivering results for the benefit of the Danes.”
