The demand for emergency supplies is significantly increasing: Outdoor equipment and emergency kits are experiencing a sales boom. Stores that sell outdoor equipment are reporting a significant increase in sales following the publication of new recommendations for a home emergency preparedness by the Danish Emergency Management Agency (Beredskabsstyrelsen). According to director Thomas Vangsgaard from Spejder Sport, there has been a noticeable increase in the demand for emergency preparedness equipment since Saturday afternoon. Vangsgaard tells DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) that the sales of items such as water jugs, camp stoves, and first aid kits have increased drastically, and emergency radios are now sold out. He emphasizes that they will increase their purchases to meet the demand.
The recommendations were announced by the Danish Emergency Management Agency and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen (V) during the People’s Meeting on Bornholm. These guidelines come as a response to the deteriorating threat picture from Russia and include guidance on what Danes should have at home to be prepared for crisis situations or hybrid warfare. The newly established company Ready Box has also experienced a massive increase in interest in their products following the authorities’ recommendations. Ready Box, established in April, specializes in selling boxes containing necessary items for acute crisis situations. According to co-founder Frederik Müller, the company has seen a traffic increase on their website of around 2500 percent, and on Saturday alone, they generated an additional revenue of approximately one million Danish kroner.
The sudden increase in demand suggests that Danes are taking the authorities’ recommendations seriously and preparing for potential crisis situations.
