The public will be informed once the water quality has been ensured. E.coli bacteria are common intestinal bacteria naturally found in both humans and animals. Although most types are not harmful, there are variants that can cause serious illnesses. As part of the Danish authorities’ efforts to protect beachgoers, bathing water is regularly checked throughout the bathing season. If water quality deteriorates, municipalities are obligated to inform citizens. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, contamination is most often due to sewer overflows after heavy rainfall.
