After new crisis recommendations: Surge in visitors to the Emergency Management Agency’s website
The new recommendations from the Emergency Management Agency, urging Danes to be self-sufficient for three days with necessary supplies, have sparked great interest among the population. Since the recommendations were announced, the Emergency Management Agency has experienced a significant increase in visits to their website.
From Saturday noon, when the Emergency Management Agency and Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen presented the new crisis advice, until Wednesday noon, 100,000 visitors have clicked into the agency’s website, the Emergency Management Agency told Ritzau. In comparison, the website had only 5,000 visitors in the corresponding period the week before. This amounts to a 20-fold increase in the number of visitors.
On the Emergency Management Agency’s website, citizens can find information on how to establish a home emergency kit that can sustain them for three days during a crisis situation. There is a shopping list and detailed advice on managing various crises.
The new crisis advice has also affected sales in supermarkets. Coop, which operates chains such as Kvickly, SuperBrugsen, and 365discount, saw a doubling in the sales of certain items, including water, already by Monday after the announcement. Similarly, Dagrofa, behind Meny, Spar, Min Købmand, and Let-Køb, has seen a similar increase in the sales of items such as rice, pasta, and canned foods.
Authorities emphasize that the purpose of these preparations is to make it easier for them to handle a crisis situation if the population is well-prepared. In addition to food and water, the advice includes having an adequate supply of medicine and hygiene products such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and tampons.
