The Southern Funen doctor, Jette Aaen, has been charged with extensive tax evasion that exceeds previous assumptions, according to a court hearing request that TV 2 Fyn has obtained access to. The 63-year-old doctor is accused by the police of defrauding 4.2 million Danish kroner between 2016 and 2021. Region of Southern Denmark reported Jette Aaen and her partner, Ole Bjørn Rasmussen, for fraud totaling at least 1.1 million kroner through their joint medical clinic in Svendborg in April 2021. Since then, Aaen has repaid 1.1 million kroner, but the investigation has revealed further financial irregularities.
The prosecution demands the confiscation of two properties worth 4 million kroner, owned by the doctor couple. One is a villa in Svendborg, and the other is an apartment in Copenhagen, which the couple purchased in 2022 for 4.3 million kroner. The doctors have been stripped of the right to run their own practice and now work under different conditions. Jette Aaen is employed by Alles Lægehus in Faaborg, while Ole Bjørn Rasmussen has suspended his medical license. Region of Southern Denmark is now conducting extra checks on medical clinics following revelations of irregularities in the medical practice chain.
The trial against Jette Aaen is set to begin in September, where she faces charges of fraud and particularly serious data fraud. Senior prosecutor Karina Winther Juhlin expects a guilty plea. The penalty for the alleged offenses includes both fines and imprisonment, but the prosecution has not yet disclosed the exact punishment they will seek.
