Friday evening and night to Saturday brought significant amounts of rain to several areas in the country. Some areas continued to experience rain showers on Saturday morning. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), Southeast Jutland in particular has received large amounts of precipitation. In Vejle, 60.2 millimeters have been recorded, in Horsens 57.6 millimeters, and in Kolding 51.2 millimeters of rain.
DMI reports that five measuring stations have measured over 50 millimeters of rain from Friday night until 08:00 on Saturday. This is due to a low-pressure system that moved over Denmark from the southwest on Friday and by Saturday morning was located over Samsø heading towards the Baltic countries.
The whole country has received a total of 16.4 millimeters of rain from Friday to Saturday morning. In June 2023, 27 millimeters of precipitation were recorded nationwide. Kolding is the only place in the country where cloudburst has been measured, defined as more than 15 millimeters of rain in 30 minutes.
DMI warned of heavy rain and cloudbursts in several regions on Friday, including South and South Jutland, Funen, Central and West Zealand, as well as Lolland and Falster. Later in the evening, the warning was extended to also include the Capital Region and East Jutland, including Aarhus.
While the start of the weekend has been characterized by rain, it seems that the end will be drier. Sunday is expected to start cloudy, but clearing will bring sunshine to the whole country, allowing for the celebration of Midsummer’s Eve in dry weather.
Forecasts for next week indicate dry and warm weather, with the possibility of meteorological summer days, where the temperature in some parts of the country may exceed 25 degrees from Wednesday onwards.
