Summer vacation is just around the corner, and that means busy roads in Denmark. Especially the motorway E45 between Kolding and Randers will be affected, as there are planned expansions on a total stretch of 60 kilometers. This expansion will result in roadworks in both directions, which may lead to longer travel times in the summer months. The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) warns particularly about traffic challenges on E45 near Aarhus West, where three motorway ramps are closed until mid-August. Additionally, roadworks on Motorway 3 west of Copenhagen will begin early in August, which could mean complete closures on certain days. Motorists heading to Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup are advised to plan their route carefully.
For those planning to drive through Germany, it is worth noting that there may be roadworks on several main routes. The Road Directorate generally recommends that motorists plan their routes before departure to avoid unnecessary delays. The most congested routes in the summer period are expected to be the E20 West Motorway, the Fyn Motorway, and the E45 South Jutland Motorway. Areas at the Danish-German border and ferry ports to Germany at Rødby and Gedser will also experience heavy traffic. E45 East Jutland Motorway between Aarhus North and Skærup is also mentioned as one of the most congested routes.
Especially on weekends, and particularly Saturdays from week 26 to 32, there is a high risk of traffic jams, as this is often changeover day for summer houses. The traffic will especially be heavy on route 21 to and from Sjællands Odde, route 16 extension of the Hillerød motorway, route 11 along the Jutland west coast, route 55 near Løkken and Blokhus, and route 40 to and from Skagen. To avoid unnecessary delays, it is recommended that motorists stay updated on current road conditions and plan their trips well in advance.
