Jammerbugt Municipality introduces a bathing ban at Blokhus Stream
Jammerbugt Municipality has issued a ban on bathing in Blokhus Stream, which flows out at the popular Blokhus Beach. The reason for the ban is the discovery of fecal coliform bacteria and enterococci in the water. These bacteria, also known as E. coli, can originate from human and animal intestines and are often associated with health risks such as diarrhea.
According to TV 2 Nord, the problem can be traced back to a misconnection between sewage and rainwater pipes at Jammerbugt Supply. This misconnection has led to sewage water being discharged into the stream, resulting in the current pollution.
E. coli bacteria and enterococci can have serious consequences for public health, as they can lead to various forms of gastrointestinal infections. Therefore, the municipality has chosen to take drastic steps to protect residents and visitors by prohibiting all bathing in Blokhus Stream.
This bathing ban comes on the heels of another recent bathing ban at Luneborg Beach in East Funen, implemented by Svendborg Municipality for similar reasons. The ban at Blokhus Stream underscores the importance of monitoring and maintaining sewage systems to prevent such incidents.
The municipality encourages everyone to comply with the temporary bathing ban and hopes to resolve the issue as soon as possible, so that bathers can once again enjoy the beach facilities without health risks.
