Around 246,000 customers of the telecommunications company Oister had their secret phone numbers and addresses exposed on the directory site 118.dk. This occurred as a result of an IT upgrade at Oister, which made the information publicly available from Friday, June 21. However, the company has since rectified the error, and the information has been hidden again since Wednesday.
In a press release on Thursday, Oister expressed great regret over the incident. CEO Anthony Lim emphasized that Oister is taking the matter very seriously and has offered the affected customers the option to change to a new secret number at no cost. Additionally, Oister has tightened their procedures and implemented new measures to prevent a similar situation from arising in the future.
All affected customers have been informed of the incident and have received a private message with details of the exposed information, including full name, address, and phone number. The company has clearly stated that social security numbers, banking information, and other forms of payment data were not publicly available.
To further assist the affected customers, Oister has set up an extraordinary hotline, which is available on Thursday between 9am and 7pm. The incident has also been reported to the relevant authorities. Oister assures that a stricter internal quality control of address and number information has been carried out to prevent future errors of this nature.
