EM Football Focus in Esbjerg: Festivities and Big Screens

Big focus on the European Championship in Esbjerg: Soccer party and big screens

When Denmark’s national soccer team plays, there is no lack of enthusiasm in Esbjerg. The city’s many bars and gathering places are getting ready for a series of big soccer parties that bring people together for the common goal: to support the Danish boys in their European Championship matches. Here is an overview of the best places to experience the European Championship atmosphere and a special effort from the local businesses in Ribe.

Esbjerg Street Food: A party for everyone

Esbjerg Street Food, located at Kongensgade 32, is ready to offer a true European Championship party. Here you can experience the matches in several different zones. The Fan Zone is the place for adults, where the party really gets to let loose in the courtyard, decorated with what is probably Denmark’s largest national flag. There is also a Booking Zone with tables for those who want to reserve space in advance, as well as an Eating Zone for those who just want to enjoy good food in peaceful surroundings.

Stalden Pool & Sportsbar: Soccer and fun

Stalden Pool & Sportsbar at Borgergade 73 offers a mix of soccer and fun with the possibility of pool, darts, and shuffleboard. With fan zones both indoors and outdoors, there is room for everyone, and the focus on soccer matches – including Denmark’s match against Norway on Saturday – guarantees a festive atmosphere.

Little London – English Pub & Pool: English coziness and Danish team spirit

Under Hotel Britannia at Torvegade 24, Little London invites you to a combination of English pub atmosphere and Danish European Championship spirit. Here you can experience the friendly match against Norway and then enjoy live music with Morten Iversen Solo. It is recommended to reserve a spot well in advance, especially during the festival week.

Homerun Esbjerg: First-come, first-served for European Championship soccer

Homerun, located on the first floor of the old post office on Torvet, operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Speed is essential as securing a spot for the matches. They expect great support and have already announced that they will show the European Championship final on July 14.

Large screen in Ribe Square: Local efforts behind

In Ribe, at Domkirkepladsen, the local trade association and businesses have arranged for an even larger screen for the match against Germany. After great success with a 21 sqm screen for the first matches, they have now obtained a 28 sqm screen from Aalborg, which is ready for Saturday’s match. The initiative has been made possible thanks to the strong support from local businesses that have donated to the event. This is especially noteworthy as Esbjerg Municipality has chosen not to financially support this match, despite previous support.

Discrimination sparks debate

Esbjerg Municipality’s decision not to support Ribe Handel’s large screen event for the match against Germany has sparked debate. Previously, the municipality has supported large screen events in both Esbjerg and Ribe, but this time Ribe Handel had to finance it on their own. It has brought back memories of the controversy from the 2021 European Championship, where Ribe had to finance the big screen themselves while Esbjerg received municipal support.

All in all, an exciting European Championship summer is in store in Esbjerg and Ribe, where both fans and local efforts are doing their best to create the best environment to support Denmark’s national soccer team.
