Danish Meteorological Institute issues warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms

Danmark’s Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for potentially heavy rain and cloudbursts in several parts of the country this Sunday. According to an update on DMI’s website, the weather will be characterized by rain and gray clouds with local areas expected to receive up to 50 millimeters of rain. The most affected areas range from the southeastern part of Fyn to Bornholm, where between 25 and 35 millimeters of rain are expected within a six-hour period. “Furthermore, the showers may be accompanied by thunder,” reports DMI.

The warning covers the entire island of Sjælland and brings bad news for attendees of the Roskilde Festival, which has just started and runs until July 6th. The festival attracts over 130,000 participants, who must now prepare for wet conditions.

DMI describes that Sjælland and Fyn can expect rain throughout the day, while Bornholm will experience the precipitation in two rounds. “First, there will be a portion in the morning, after which it will stay dry until the afternoon, when the next wave of showers and rain hits,” explains DMI. Temperatures are expected to range between 16 and 20 degrees throughout the day.

Today’s weather system is the same one that briefly interrupted the international soccer match between Germany and Denmark in Dortmund yesterday, and it has now moved northward. From mid-morning, the weather will also affect the southeastern part of Southern Jutland, and around noon, the people in eastern Jutland can expect rain.
