Danish Travelers Embrace Summer Holidays with Record Sales Spike

Danes are buying summer vacations like never before. The desire to travel among Danes has seen a significant upturn, with several travel companies reporting increased sales compared to last year. One of those experiencing this trend is Spies. Spies’ Communication Manager, Sofie Folden Lund, explains that the wet weather has had a significant impact on the increase in sold charter trips.

“In the past week, we have sold ten percent more than last year. It has been a couple of years since we have seen such a large sale in a week,” says Sofie Folden Lund. She highlights that the sales took a significant leap on Sunday, with 42 percent more trips sold than at the same time last year. She attributes this increase to both the bad weather and Denmark’s exit from the European Championship.

At TUI, the trend is similar. Communication Manager Mikkel Hansen states that the number of booked trips in June is 11 percent higher than at the same time last year. “The most popular destinations are in the Mediterranean, where Rhodes, Cyprus, and Mallorca have seen the biggest increase,” says Mikkel Hansen.

Bravo Tours is also experiencing a significant increase in sales. CEO Peder Hornshøj explains that the company has sold 10 percent more trips for July compared to last year. He particularly notes a high demand from “large families,” where multiple generations travel together.

“We see a high demand for destinations like Mallorca and a number of Greek islands such as Rhodes, Crete, Zakynthos, and Lesbos,” says Peder Hornshøj. However, he warns that many hotels in Southern Europe are already starting to fill up. “It’s not just in Denmark that the desire to travel is high, so you have to act quickly if you want to secure a spot,” he adds.
