The Ministry of Defense plans to establish an expert committee in August. After a long delay, the Ministry of Defense announces that a new expert committee will be set up in August. The committee is tasked with providing recommendations on how the Defense can operate as an efficient and well-run organization, stated Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen in a response to the parliament.
The decision to establish the expert committee was originally made in the Parliament’s defense agreement from the summer of 2023. Although it was planned for the committee to be established in the autumn of 2023, the process has been delayed. This has sparked criticism, and the Defense Minister’s announcement of the new timeline came in response to a question from the defense spokesperson of the Liberal Alliance, Carsten Bach.
“It is correct that the expert committee has not yet been established,” Troels Lund Poulsen began, continuing, “This is due, among other things, to busyness with other critical tasks in the defense area. Additionally, it is my assessment that it is crucial that we take the necessary time to appoint the right members with relevant skills and experiences.”
The expert committee will focus on three key areas: financial management in the Defense, organization and leadership structure, and how to achieve “the best defense for the money.” These areas have been selected as a result of uncovering questionable conditions in the operation of the Defense.
While considerations about the composition of the expert committee are still ongoing, the Defense Minister emphasizes that work to ensure an efficient and well-run defense organization is already underway.
“Even though the expert committee has not yet been established, I would like to underline that the Ministry of Defense is continuing to work on ensuring that the defense is an efficient and well-run organization,” concluded Troels Lund Poulsen. /Ritzau/
