Joe Biden acknowledges poor performance in TV debate against Trump – Rejects withdrawal

Last week caused a stir when Joe Biden struggled through a TV debate against Donald Trump. The 81-year-old president has since faced increasing demands to withdraw as a presidential candidate. Now Biden himself acknowledges that the debate did not go well, but at the same time, he urges Americans to see the bigger picture.

“I had a bad night. And the fact is, it was … I messed up. I made a mistake,” said the president in a radio interview with CNN on Thursday. But even though Biden, who defeated Trump in the 2020 election, admits his mistake, he urges voters not to base their assessment of him on this one incident.

According to Biden, Americans should look at his overall performance as president when deciding if he deserves their vote. “It’s 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I’ve done in three and a half years,” he told CNN.

On November 5th this year, Americans will choose a new president, and so far everything indicates that the election will be between the current Democratic president, Joe Biden, and the former Republican president Donald Trump. Despite the turmoil surrounding Biden, the White House spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, emphasizes that Biden is in no way considering withdrawing from the campaign.

The White House explains Biden’s poor performance in the TV debate as jet lag.
