The Navy will in the future keep a close eye on Russian warships and submarines sailing through Danish waters. This was announced by the Defense in a press release on Friday afternoon. The Defense Command expects that several Russian vessels will pass through the Øresund and the Great Belt to participate in the “Navy Day” in St. Petersburg on July 28.
“It is not uncommon for Russian ships to sail through Danish waters, especially around ‘Navy Day’,” said the Defense. “The Navy monitors the ship traffic around Denmark around the clock, which of course also includes the Russian ships.”
Despite the existing tensions between Russia and the West, ships from all nations, including Russia, have the right to sail through Danish waters, emphasized the Defense Command. In December, the Defense made visual contact with two Russian vessels in Danish waters and followed them for several hours.
