Zealand, Funen, and East Jutland are facing a day of severe weather as a powerful storm hits these areas on Saturday. The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for potential local cloudbursts and thunderstorms that apply to Zealand, Lolland-Falster, Funen, and the eastern part of Jutland from Saturday afternoon until evening. In addition to rain and thunder, there is also a risk of hail and strong gusts of wind. According to the DMI website, the cause is a cold front moving into the country from the west during the day. This cold front could generate heavy showers with hail and very strong gusts of wind.
The latest forecasts indicate that East Jutland, Funen, Zealand, as well as Lolland and Falster are the most vulnerable areas. However, DMI notes that small changes in wind, humidity, and temperature can affect the weather’s development throughout Saturday. A cloudburst is defined as at least 15 millimeters of precipitation in 30 minutes, which can lead to road and basement flooding. The Roskilde Festival, which ends on Saturday, is within the warned area, meaning festival-goers should be prepared for large amounts of rain.
