Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) issues weather warning for Roskilde Festival – Saturday noon could bring traffic challenges. Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi (Mid and West Zealand Police) warns of traffic problems as many festival-goers begin their journey home from Roskilde Festival on Saturday afternoon. Police urge drivers to follow the signs and show patience to avoid traffic chaos.
Saturday marks the end of this year’s Roskilde Festival, which has been ongoing since June 29th. DMI predicts potentially dangerous weather with heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms during the afternoon. The combination of open fields and metal structures at the festival site increases the risk during thunderstorms.
Roskilde Festival is prepared for the possible bad weather. Security chief Morten Therkildsen told TV 2 News that the festival is ready to close the stages Platform and Apollo if necessary due to lightning. The festival has already installed lightning conductors to minimize the risk.
Therkildsen emphasized that the main concern right now is the risk of festival-goers’ tents, pavilions, and signs blowing around the camping area. To address these risks, Roskilde Festival has worked with DMI to provide guidelines to guests on how to act in case of thunderstorms. The main advice is to seek shelter in low-lying structures or vehicles and avoid standing under trees, especially isolated trees.
DMI expects the worst of the storm to be over around 7-8 pm on Saturday evening.
