The humanitarian organization International Cooperation is now reconsidering their support for the large demonstrations for Palestine after it was revealed that the organizers have connections to the terrorist organization PFLP. This decision comes after an exposé that has raised concerns among several political actors, including the Danish People’s Party. Danish People’s Party member of parliament, Nick Zimmermann, has expressed serious concern over International Cooperation’s previous participation in demonstrations organized by International Forum. “I certainly expect it to be stopped as quickly as possible,” he says.
In 2022, International Cooperation received 162 million Danish kroner in government funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Danida. Zimmermann emphasizes that the organization has a special responsibility to be aware of who they collaborate with, especially when it comes to participating in demonstrations. “We need to keep an eye on whether International Cooperation and other organizations receiving Danish government funding are participating in demonstrations organized by International Forum. If that’s the case, we must discuss whether this state support is appropriate,” says Zimmermann.
Zimmermann also questions the leadership of International Cooperation, including Secretary-General Tim Whyte and Chairperson Haifaa Awad, and believes that it is necessary to monitor whether they are the right people to lead the organization. International Cooperation has declined to comment on Nick Zimmermann’s criticism.
International Forum, which describes itself as a solidarity organization, has existed since 1972. The organization collaborates with and supports popular movements worldwide that are fighting against imperialism. Their Palestine group has gained significant support following a terrorist attack on Israel last year and the subsequent war in Gaza. The group, also known as ‘Stop the Annexation’ on social media, has tens of thousands of followers.
International Forum has organized several large Palestine demonstrations in Danish cities, which have now attracted attention and criticism due to their connections to PFLP.
