A two-meter-long royal python has disappeared from an apartment in Silkeborg, prompting the owner to search for the unusual pet. On Thursday morning, Leila Moselund discovered that her royal python named Gaya was missing from both the terrarium and the apartment. Leila Moselund lives in the Astrid Lindgren neighborhood in Silkeborg and hopes that the snake is still in the area.
According to Leila Moselund, Gaya is not dangerous and can be safely handled if someone finds her. “She is everything to me, and it would mean everything if she comes back,” says Leila Moselund. She imagines that Gaya may have found a place to sleep in a sunbeam.
Leila Moselund plans to contact the Danish Animal Protection (Dyrenes Beskyttelse) and recommends placing the snake in a box with air holes if found. The royal python, an African constrictor snake, is known to be the smallest of its kind and has a light brown color with dark brown spots.
Although royal pythons can bite if they feel threatened, according to Randers Rainforest (Randers Regnskov), this typically does not cause much pain as their teeth are small. In some cases, the snake can also curl up into a ball to protect itself.
The search has been shared in a Facebook group for Silkeborg residents, where many have expressed their support and promised to keep an eye out for Gaya. The owner hopes for a happy reunion with her beloved pet.
