While the festival is in full swing Friday night, a team of volunteers is working tirelessly to prepare the camping area for the expected downpour at Vig Festival. Festival director Ole Rasmussen explains that the volunteers are laying down large metal plates and cobblestones to make the area ready for the heavy rain showers expected overnight into Saturday and continuing into the day.
“The party is in full swing on the grounds, which allows us to work efficiently without too much disturbance,” Rasmussen says, adding that the work will intensify when Nik & Jay take the stage in a couple of hours. At that point, more vehicles will be brought in to lay the final plates and stones before the rain starts.
In total, about 1000 tons of cobblestones will have been laid by the time the rain begins, which according to the festival director will help drain the water away. The cobblestones are slightly larger than the traditional stones found in driveways, creating larger air holes between the stones and thereby improving drainage capacity.
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall with the risk of cloudburst, and between 50 and 80 millimeters of rain are expected to fall in Odsherred on North-West Zealand, where the festival is taking place.
