The forecasted rain on Saturday has prompted both jazz festivals in Copenhagen and Aarhus to take precautions and move some of their events indoors. The festivals have had to think creatively to ensure that the music can continue despite the weather forecast.
In Copenhagen, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival has already moved a two-day festival in the Northwest area indoors to an old car workshop. Festival director Kenneth Hansen told Ritzau that they have chosen to move the festival “Vingesus” indoors as a precaution against the predicted rain. Although the rain has not been severe so far, the decision was made to be on the safe side, as the weather can quickly change.
The Aarhus Jazz Festival has also taken precautions and moved several of Saturday’s events indoors. Administrative manager Marie Normann Nyeng explained to TV 2 that concerts at Salling Rooftop can be moved indoors, and on Klostertorvet, there is the option to move events to Café Smagløs if the rain becomes too heavy.
Kenneth Hansen noted that most major outdoor events in Copenhagen have already been held earlier in the week, such as a large event on Tuesday in Kongens Have. However, there will still be smaller outdoor events in Copenhagen on Saturday, including two concerts in Byhaven, which can also be quickly moved indoors if the weather requires it.
The Copenhagen Jazz Festival runs from Thursday, July 4, to Sunday, July 14, while the Aarhus Jazz Festival takes place from July 12 to July 21. Aarhus has planned additional outdoor events in the coming week, including an event at Salling Rooftop on Tuesday, July 16, and one at Klostertorvet on Wednesday, July 17.
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) warned on Friday about the risk of heavy rain and potential 100-year events in several parts of the country. However, Saturday’s rainfall has not proven to be as extreme as feared.
