The eager bathers in Copenhagen are facing challenges this Sunday as five popular bathing spots in the capital have been marked with red flags, indicating poor water quality. According to TV 2 Kosmopol, these include Kalvebod Wave Bathing Zone, Islands Brygge Harbour Bath, Halfdansgade Bathing Zone, Fisketorvet Harbour Bath, and Havnevigen Bathing Zone.
However, Copenhagen is not alone in this issue. Red flags have also been raised at Brøndby Strand and Vallensbæk Strand, as well as at ten bathing spots north of the capital. The situation is even more serious in Aarhus Bay, where a total of eleven bathing spots have been affected by poor water quality.
The cause of the poor water quality is not specified on Badevand.dk (Danish Bathing Water website), but Aarhus Municipality has previously explained that heavy rain can overload the sewage systems. This can result in the discharge of untreated sewage, negatively impacting the water quality. The rain that hit large parts of the country on Saturday could therefore be a contributing factor to the many red flags.
