Danish instructors play a crucial role in training Ukrainian soldiers. Instructors from the Danish military are deeply involved in training Ukrainian soldiers, with a primary focus on trench warfare. Last week, the Danish instructors conducted intensive training exercises, including first aid under stressful conditions and realistic trench exercises, as part of a training mission in the United Kingdom.
According to an update from the Danish Defence Command, the Ukrainian soldiers were subjected to a highly stressful environment, created by smoke and sound machines, blinding lights, and instructors shouting and pushing them to act quickly and effectively. This is part of the training program aimed at preparing them for the harsh realities of combat. The Danish Defence Command notes that the Ukrainian soldiers found it exciting to participate in these exercises.
One of the key exercises was trench warfare, which the Danish Defence Command describes as a crucial component of the training. Soldiers were trained in strategies to fight from and attack trenches, as well as clearing them of enemies.
Denmark has been part of this training mission since 2022, as part of broader support to Ukraine. The training is led by the United Kingdom, but Danish instructors have played a significant role, not only in the United Kingdom but also in Germany, where they have trained Ukrainian tank crews on Leopard tanks.
In addition, Ukrainian pilots are receiving training in Denmark at Skrydstrup Air Base in Sønderjylland. This training is aimed at ensuring that the Ukrainian Air Force is able to operate, service, and maintain F-16 fighter jets. The program in Skrydstrup runs until the end of 2024 and will train a total of 20 Ukrainian F-16 pilots.
