Danish Clothing Chain Nanna XL Closes – Wegovy Impact Discussed

The clothing chain Nanna XL is closing down – Wegovy creates significant changes. Nanna XL has closed its doors, while the store Store Robert has noticed a concrete change in customers’ buying patterns due to the popular weight-loss drug Wegovy. This drug has helped many Danes with weight loss, but at the same time, it has had a negative economic impact on stores specializing in plus-size clothing.

Pernille Ibsen, owner of Nanna XL, told Avisen Danmark that the chain has now gone bankrupt. Nanna XL, which has sold plus-size women’s clothing through seven stores spread across the country, has experienced a significant drop in sales as many of their customers now buy clothing in smaller sizes as a result of using Wegovy. – Our customers are losing weight and therefore starting to buy their clothes elsewhere. With the widespread use of Wegovy, it really means something to us, says Pernille Ibsen.

In addition to Wegovy’s entry into the market, factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and increased online shopping have also posed challenges for Nanna XL in recent years. The chain was established in 1997 as the first clothing chain focusing on plus sizes, and at its peak, Nanna XL had 15 stores nationwide.

Nanna XL is not the only one experiencing the consequences of Wegovy’s spread. The Store Robert store in Valby, which sells men’s clothing for larger people, has also observed changes in the sizes sold. According to Store Robert, some of their regular customers have reported using Wegovy, which has resulted in the most sold sizes now dropping one or two XL sizes. However, the store has not experienced a general decline in sales figures as a result of the widespread use of the weight-loss drug.
