For many years, the Danish political party Enhedslisten has channeled tax funds to the Palestinian organization Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP). However, after it emerged that DFLP was involved in a terrorist attack against Israel on October 7th last year, the cooperation was immediately terminated. Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten was among the first to expose DFLP’s role in the attack, and B.T. also provided evidence, including video footage, documenting how DFLP abducted and executed a 21-year-old civilian from Tanzania, Joshua Mollel, during the attack.
A new comprehensive report from the human rights organization Human Rights Watch confirms that DFLP participated in the terrorist attack. The specific unit involved was DFLP’s paramilitary wing, the Martyr Omar Al Qassem Brigades. The report also reveals that DFLP did not act alone; five different groups participated in the attack, including Hamas and PFLP, both classified as terrorist organizations by the USA and EU.
According to Human Rights Watch, these groups were part of a joint operations forum that participated in military training together leading up to the attack on October 7. The attack resulted in over 1,200 deaths, including 815 civilians. The report also documents that several of the terrorist groups deliberately targeted civilian goals and committed serious abuses such as rape and other forms of sexual abuse.
The cooperation between Enhedslisten and DFLP was funded using public funds in the form of development assistance from 2013 to 2021, with a total of 3.2 million Danish kroner spent on a collaborative project with DFLP and two other left-wing parties in the Palestinian West Bank.
In response to the conclusions of the Human Rights Watch report, Enhedslisten has chosen not to comment. Previously, Trine Pertou Mach, Enhedslisten’s foreign policy spokesperson, stated in connection with B.T.’s revelations: “It’s just so awful. It once again confirms that it was the right decision to break off the relationship with DFLP as soon as we became aware of their involvement in the terrorist attack on October 7.”
