A serious accident occurred on Saturday evening at Tivoli, when a young man was burned during a fireworks show. This has led to Tivoli temporarily deciding to suspend their weekly fireworks shows until a thorough investigation of the incident has been completed.
According to Tivoli’s press chief, Torben Plank, the 20-year-old fireworks worker was taken to the hospital after sustaining burns on both his neck and fingers. On Sunday, Plank announced that the fireworks worker is doing well under the circumstances. “The injured young man is doing well under the circumstances, and our thoughts are with him and his family. Let this incident remind us all that fireworks should be treated with the utmost respect,” the press chief stated in a written statement.
The injured individual is employed by an external company that supplies fireworks to Tivoli, not directly by the amusement park. On Tivoli’s website, it is mentioned that the fireworks shows normally take place every Saturday from June 1st to September 21st, just before the park’s closing time.
Copenhagen Police were notified of the accident at 11:44 p.m. on Saturday evening. Duty officer Dyre Sønnicksen has stated that there is still no clarity on how the accident exactly happened. “The fireworks worker is typically the person who plans and ignites the fireworks. I do not yet know the exact details of what happened, but he was burned during the fireworks display,” he said.
Police confirm that no other individuals were injured in the incident, and the condition of the fireworks worker was not critical. The accident will now be investigated by the police in collaboration with the Danish Working Environment Authority to determine what went wrong.
