Henrik Voldborg, one of Denmark’s most beloved weather presenters, has passed away at the age of 88. His family has announced that he died on Sunday after a long illness. Voldborg is survived by his wife, Anne Marie, and their four children.
Henrik Voldborg was a familiar face on DR, where he delivered weather forecasts with great enthusiasm for many years, often wearing his characteristic colorful knitted sweaters. These sweaters were often adorned with weather symbols, making his presentations both informative and entertaining.
Voldborg’s fascination with the weather began at the age of 10 during the harsh ice winter of 1947. He earned a master’s degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Copenhagen in 1961 and quickly found employment at the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) and Danmarks Radio (DR). He made his debut as a weather presenter in 1963 and was a regular fixture on DR’s weather broadcasts from 1988 until his retirement in 2001.
Henrik Voldborg was known for his ability to make the weather understandable to the average Dane. He used unique expressions like “whirligig” and “apple shaker” to describe weather phenomena, making his broadcasts both educational and entertaining.
In addition to his career as a meteorologist, Voldborg was also a talented amateur cellist and a devoted family man. He received several awards for his work, including the knighthood, which he was awarded by the Queen upon his retirement.
Henrik Voldborg will be laid to rest at Nærum Church on July 26 at 11:00 am. He will be remembered for his great passion for meteorology and his ability to bring joy and insight to viewers through his many years on screen.
