The film “The Silenced” selected for international film festival
The Danish film “The Silenced”, inspired by a historical robbery in Denmark, has been chosen to participate in the prestigious film festival in Toronto. Zentropa, one of the film’s production companies, confirms in a press release that “The Silenced” will have its world premiere at this renowned festival.
The film is included in the “Discovery” section, dedicated to new directors. Frederik Louis Hviid, the director behind the film, made his directorial debut in 2020 with the action film “Shorta”, which was showcased at the Venice Film Festival. Most recently, Hviid worked as a conceptual director on the DR series “The House” from 2023, an achievement that earned him a Robert for Best TV series in 2024.
Frederik Louis Hviid expresses his joy at the selection: “I am proud and honored that ‘The Silenced’ will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Much like our characters in the film, ‘The Silenced’ at times has required us to try to achieve the impossible.”
“The Silenced” draws on the true story of Denmark’s largest robbery, where a group of men robbed the Danish money handling company in 2008 and got away with 70 million Danish kroner. Gustav Dyekær Giese plays the lead role as Kasper, one of the masterminds behind the robbery. Giese is known from films like “Riders of Justice” and the DR series “The House”. Additionally, award-winning actress Amanda Collin, known from “A Horrible Woman” and Nikolaj Arcel’s “The Bastard”, appears in the film.
The script for “The Silenced” is written by Anders Frithiof August, and the film is produced by Kasper Dissing, who is also involved in Thomas Vinterberg’s new TV series “Families Like Ours”, which will be shown at the Venice Film Festival.
The film was created in collaboration with Film in Väst, Zentropa Sweden, Kazak Productions, and Zentropa International France. The Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 5th to 15th, and “The Silenced” will premiere in Danish cinemas on October 31st.
