**Overwhelming Interest in New Veterinary Education Program in Foulum**
The newly established veterinary education program in Foulum, near Viborg, Denmark, has experienced a remarkable level of interest from prospective students. A total of 716 individuals have applied for just 32 available spots in the program.
This veterinary education program was launched this year at Aarhus University (Aarhus Universitet) in Foulum. According to Henrik Callesen, the vice head of the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (Institut for Husdyr- og Veterinærvidenskab), the significant interest is attributed to targeted communication efforts. “We have sent staff to fairs and agricultural shows, and we have held open house events. We have also communicated through a website and been active on social media to raise awareness about the programs,” says Callesen.
In addition to the veterinary program, a newly established education in animal science at the same institution has also gained popularity. There are fully enrolled classes here as well, with 160 applicants competing for 35 available spots.
The relocation of these programs is a result of a political decision to place more higher education offerings outside of Denmark’s largest cities. Previously, the veterinary program was only available in Copenhagen, which received 872 applications this year and admitted 186 students.
“Our goal is for this move of the programs to Aarhus University to be a success. We are therefore very pleased that they have been well-received,” adds Callesen.
Applicants in Group 1 (Kvote 1) were required to have an average score of at least 10.6 to gain admission to the veterinary program in Jutland, while the entry requirement was slightly lower at 10.1 for the University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet).
The new students in Foulum will be taught in the small village outside of Viborg, where they will receive a broad and comprehensive education in veterinary medicine and animal science.
