**Holland and Denmark Donate Leopard 2 Tanks to Ukraine**

In 2023, the Netherlands (Holland) and Denmark have announced their decision to donate 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Both countries have reported that the tanks have been refurbished by the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall and are now ready for delivery by the end of summer.

A statement from the Dutch Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the Leopard 2A4 tanks will assist Ukraine in gaining an advantage on the battlefield by providing significant firepower, effective crew protection, and high speed. The tanks, which were announced for donation in April 2023, are being transferred from Rheinmetall to Denmark and the Netherlands before being formally handed over to Ukraine. Following the delivery, Ukrainian soldiers will receive training in tank operations prior to the official transfer to Ukraine’s defense forces.

The Leopard 2 tank is recognized as one of the most effective and advanced tanks currently in production. The donated tanks are funded by the Netherlands and Denmark but are not taken from their own military reserves.

Several other countries, including Germany and Poland, have also contributed Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Additionally, Denmark pledged at the beginning of 2023 to repurchase and donate at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine in cooperation with Germany and the Netherlands. A significant portion of these tanks was decommissioned from the Danish military in 2005 and sold to a German military company. In March, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten reported that 30 of the promised Leopard 1 tanks had already been delivered to Ukraine.

Although the Leopard 1 tanks do not have the same level of armor and firepower as their Leopard 2 counterparts, they still represent a crucial component of military support to Ukraine.
