Several Pharmacies Can Again Fill Prescriptions
Skanderborg Pharmacy and its branches are now able to dispense prescription medications once more. The Danish Medicines Agency (Lægemiddelstyrelsen) announced in a press release that a solution has been reached after the death of the pharmacy owner prevented access to the pharmacy’s IT system.
The issue arose because the pharmacy’s IT system was linked to the deceased owner’s MitID, a digital identification system widely used in Denmark, which was blocked upon his passing. As a result, the pharmacies were unable to fill prescriptions.
According to the press release from the Danish Medicines Agency, the pharmacy, along with several authorities, has been working intensively to find a solution. “Thanks to a newly created CVR number, which is necessary when the owner of a sole proprietorship passes away, we have now succeeded in getting the IT systems operational again,” stated the agency.
In addition to the main pharmacy in Skanderborg, branches in Lillesø, Ry, Hørning, and Kridthøj were also affected. However, these branches were still able to dispense over-the-counter medications and remained open for customers.
The Danish Medicines Agency also announced that Lillesø Pharmacy will have special extended hours on Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM to accommodate customer needs.
“The Danish Medicines Agency thanks all involved for their extraordinary efforts in getting a complex system back up and running,” the press release concluded.
