An 18-year-old man has been arrested following a dramatic police chase that lasted 32 kilometers and ended in a forest south of Køge, Denmark. The young driver attempted to escape from the police before being caught and apprehended on Saturday morning.
Duty officer Michael Hymøller from the Mid and West Zealand Police (Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi) reported that the 18-year-old is facing charges of reckless driving. The police have measured his top speed during the chase, but those figures are still subject to verification.
One of the reasons for the young man’s desperate flight was that he did not possess a driving permit. The police pursuit began in the area around Ringsted and extended for 32 kilometers to a forest south of Køge. Here, the 18-year-old and two passengers exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Hymøller emphasized the “well-coordinated police operation” that led to the capture of the 18-year-old by police dog patrols. He is currently in police custody.
At the same time, the police have seized the 18-year-old’s vehicle, an older Audi A4, with the intention of confiscating it. If the young man is convicted of reckless driving, the car may be confiscated and sold at auction.
The two passengers in the car were briefly detained but were released after the police were able to determine who had been driving the vehicle.
