Two Men Remanded in Custody for Rape of Underage Girls
Two men were remanded in custody on Sunday afternoon in Hjørring, Denmark, facing charges of raping two girls under the age of 15. This information was confirmed by senior prosecutor at North Jutland Police (Nordjyllands Politi), Søren Riis Andersen, to the media outlet B.T.
The two men, aged 26 and 34, were arrested on Saturday at an address in Aalborg and have denied the allegations. They have appealed the remand decision to the High Court. The court determined that there is reasonable suspicion that the men had sexual intercourse with two 14-year-old girls.
According to Danish law, when the perpetrators are over the age of 22, engaging in sexual intercourse with girls under 15 is classified as rape. However, the court did not find sufficient grounds to suspect that the intercourse occurred without consent, although the men are still charged with rape due to non-consensual intercourse, as stated by Søren Riis Andersen.
The men were taken into custody on Saturday evening, the same day the report was filed. They are charged with the rape of three girls aged 14, 14, and 15 years old. The incidents are said to have occurred early Saturday at the same address in Aalborg Municipality.
The police have refrained from disclosing details regarding the relationship between the girls and the accused. In a press release on Sunday morning, police commissioner Kenneth Rodam described the case as “very serious.”
“We therefore ask for the public’s understanding that we, both in consideration of the girls and their relatives and the ongoing investigation, cannot go into detail about the specific circumstances of the case,” stated Kenneth Rodam in the press release.
