# Principal of Sorø Academy Charged with Gross Negligence Following Rape Case
Nearly two years after a police report was filed, Kristian Jacobsen, the principal of Sorø Academy (Sorø Akademi), has been charged with gross negligence and carelessness in connection with a rape case. This was reported by Ekstra Bladet, a Danish news outlet.
The rape case involved an allegation against a male student for the rape of a 17-year-old girl. The accused student was acquitted in October 2022 by the Court in Næstved, which emphasized conflicting testimonies and a lack of objective evidence in its decision.
Julie Stage, the lawyer for the acquitted student, has confirmed the charges against Kristian Jacobsen. Ekstra Bladet has obtained a written confirmation from the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police (Sydsjællands og Lolland-Falsters Politi), with Julie Stage having filed the complaint in September 2022. She asserts that the principal’s delayed report to the police harmed her client’s legal standing.
Reports indicate that Jacobsen waited for two months before informing the police and instead held mediation meetings, which, according to the lawyer, delayed the police investigation and potentially destroyed essential evidence.
The Ministry of Children and Education (Børne- og Undervisningsministeriet) and the Government Attorney (Kammeradvokaten) have concluded that a final assessment should be delayed pending the outcome of any potential criminal case against the principal.
Simultaneously, the young woman who reported the rape has been charged with making a false report and providing false testimony in court, but it has not yet been decided whether charges will be formally brought against her.
