Joshua Oppenheimer’s latest work, “The End,” produced in Denmark, has been selected for the main competition at the International Film Festival in San Sebastián, Spain. This was confirmed by the film festival on its official website.
### Strong Danish Contribution
The director of the film, the Oscar-nominated Joshua Oppenheimer, is British-American but resides in Copenhagen. He is particularly recognized for his documentary films such as “The Act of Killing” (2012) and “The Look of Silence” (2014), both of which were nominated for an Oscar. These works were also produced by the Danish production company Final Cut for Real and producer Signe Byrge Sørensen.

“The End” is a film musical that tells the story of one of the last families living a luxurious life in a bunker deep underground, following the apocalypse of the rest of the Earth. The film features actors such as George MacKay, Tilda Swinton, and Michael Shannon in leading roles. The screenplay has been written by Joshua Oppenheimer in collaboration with Danish screenwriter Rasmus Heisterberg.

Earlier this month, “The End” was also selected for the Toronto Film Festival, where the film will have its world premiere. The International Film Festival in San Sebastián runs from September 20 to September 28. It is still uncertain when the film will premiere in Denmark.
