A 37-year-old Iranian citizen, Omid Ali Asgari, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison, along with a permanent ban on entering Denmark. This marks the second time he faces deportation following a series of serious legal offenses. The verdict was delivered by the Svendborg District Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Frederik Bendixen stated that Asgari was charged with a range of offenses, including possession of firearms under particularly aggravating circumstances, making threats, and repeated violations of the return law. He has also been convicted for possessing a small amount of narcotics for personal use and for driving without a valid driver’s license.
This is not the first time that Omid Ali Asgari has been convicted in Denmark. Approximately ten years ago, at the age of 26, he was sentenced to six years in prison and was deported for extortion, threats of violence, and robbery of a taxi driver. After his initial conviction, he resided at Kærshovedgård Departure Center, where he continued to commit crimes.
During his first deportation, Asgari appealed the district court’s decision, claiming he feared for his life if deported to Iran. However, the High Court upheld the district court’s ruling on deportation. Since then, Asgari has lived at KærshovedgÃ¥rd, where he was subject to mandatory reporting, residence obligations, and information duties. He has repeatedly violated these requirements.
Among the offenses leading to the current sentence are the possession of a Lanber Baron shotgun and a Remington rifle. These firearm possessions under particularly aggravating circumstances significantly influenced the three-and-a-half-year prison sentence, according to Frederik Bendixen.
Omid Ali Asgari has chosen to appeal the sentence, and he will remain in pre-trial detention until the appeal is heard by the Eastern High Court (Østre Landsret).
