Danish Politician Quits X, Criticizes Elon Musk’s Leadership

Financiering spokesperson from the Socialist People’s Party (SF), Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, has announced her decision to leave the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, in a detailed post. Bech-Nielsen directed sharp criticism at the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, whom she referred to as a “ketamine-addled, despot-supporting man-baby.”

In an interview with the Danish newspaper B.T., Bech-Nielsen acknowledged that her choice of words was strong, but she stands by them. She explained that the mention of ketamine originates from a public comment made by Musk’s daughter, suggesting that his statements may be influenced by the ketamine he takes for depression. She emphasizes that her disapproval of the controversial billionaire has not diminished over time. A pivotal moment for Bech-Nielsen was when Musk shared a false video of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. “I see him as a dangerous person. He interferes in elections and international conflicts and shares dangerous deepfake videos of politicians. This is unacceptable, especially for a platform owner like him, and it can have serious consequences for society,” she stated.

Bech-Nielsen also finds it problematic that the quality of conversations on X has significantly deteriorated since Musk’s takeover. “The dialogue has become superficial. It is difficult to have constructive discussions, as the tone can quickly become rough and unsubstantiated. The individuals I wish to engage with are drowned out by the surrounding noise,” she noted.

The experienced politician recognizes that her departure from X may have political repercussions, as many Danes use the platform to stay informed about news and political debates. “I am aware that this can have significant implications. Many readers today derive their information from social media, but I can no longer endorse being present on a platform owned by Musk,” she commented.

Some users on X have questioned why she felt it was necessary to publicly announce her departure, which Bech-Nielsen finds perplexing. “The purpose of social media is to share one’s thoughts. If some people are indifferent, I don’t understand why they even comment. But that is no longer my concern,” she concluded.
