A 33-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday to three years and six months in prison by the Court in Sønderborg for smuggling illegal pills. The convicted individual, Slavisa Adzic, was found in possession of over 750,000 pills when he crossed the border from Germany into Denmark in a van early in the morning on February 21 at the Frøslev border crossing.
In addition to his prison sentence, he will be permanently expelled from Denmark. Slavisa Adzic admitted to the charges, which the court considered as a mitigating factor. Prosecutor Katrine Tranekjer stated that the sentencing particularly took into account the large quantity and type of pills, which included opioids such as oxycodone and tramadol, as well as various forms of tranquilizers, including alprazolam and diazepam.
The purpose of the smuggling operation was to distribute the pills to a large number of individuals or to sell them for significant profit, as indicated in the court documents. The prosecutor did not disclose how the pills were obtained but mentioned that they were intended to be transported to Copenhagen.
