A tragic incident occurred at a beach near Nykøbing Sjælland on Wednesday morning, where a 55-year-old man from Greater Copenhagen lost his life while attempting to save his dog. According to Midt- and Vestsjællands Police (Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi), they received an emergency call at 8 AM, in which witnesses described how the man undressed and swam out to his dog, which had drifted 200-300 meters from shore.
While the man was trying to reach his dog, he found himself in distress and called for help. Two resourceful women on the beach immediately jumped into the water and managed to bring the lifeless man back to shore. There, they provided first aid until emergency services arrived. To ensure the fastest possible transport, a helicopter was called, which flew the man to the hospital. Despite the diligent rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police have informed the relatives about the tragic accident and emphasized the importance of always exercising caution in such rescue situations.
