Biden Proposes Reforms for U.S. Supreme Court Amid Scandals

**Washington, DC** – Calls for reforms of the U.S. Supreme Court have intensified, particularly following a series of scandals that have put the institution’s neutrality to the test. Over the past year, two justices have been accused of accepting luxurious vacation stays from donors to the Republican Party, raising concerns among critics about the impartiality of the conservative-leaning court.

President **Joe Biden**’s recent decision to propose comprehensive reforms of the Supreme Court marks a potential turning point, according to experts. Historically, Biden has distanced himself from such proposals, but his latest announcement regarding reforms indicates a shift in this long-standing stance. “Joe Biden is not a radical. He is an institutionalist,” stated **Devon Ombres**, Director of Courts and Justice Reform at the **Center for American Progress**. “Biden has reached this point, which shows how urgent the need for reforms has become.”

Throughout his tenure in Congress, Biden has resisted reform efforts and concentrated on maintaining the existing structure of the court. In 2021, he established a commission to explore possible changes; however, for the next two and a half years, he remained largely silent on the commission’s recommendations. This changed recently with his announcement of a reform proposal, referencing that changes are necessary to restore public trust in the Supreme Court.

Biden has outlined three specific areas for reform: [insert proposed areas for reform here, if needed for context].

While these reforms enjoy significant public support, there is widespread skepticism among experts about their likelihood of being enacted in a deeply polarized Congress. However, Biden appears to be attempting to leverage the political dynamics as Vice President **Kamala Harris** approaches the presidential election as his potential successor.

Reforms of the Supreme Court have been a topic of discussion for many years in the United States, but the court’s current composition, which became dominated by conservatives during **Donald Trump’s** presidency, has heightened the demand for changes. Critical voices from both ends of the political spectrum have expressed concerns regarding the court’s integrity and impartiality.

Despite Biden’s calls for reform, opponents are quick to dismiss his proposals as unconstitutional and as attempts to reshape the Supreme Court due to dissatisfaction with its current make-up. Nonetheless, polls suggest that the public may be open to the reform proposal.

Analysts believe that the political landscape could allow progressives to rally support for reforms, although the risk of opposition from Republicans remains substantial. Biden and his supporters now face the challenge of navigating this complicated political terrain to determine whether these reforms can be realized.
