Aage Stokholm found himself in an unexpected and violent situation on Sunday evening. While preparing for the annual GrimFest festival in Aarhus, he was struck by a car and thrown several meters along the road. The incident occurred as part of an attempt to stop two thieves who had previously stolen equipment from the festival site. Despite Stokholm’s efforts to block the escape route, the vehicle accelerated directly towards him. The episode culminated in the car driving over his shoulder, a situation he narrowly avoided from being more severely injured by moving at the last moment.
The incident took place around 9 PM, sparked by the warning that the thieves had returned. Stokholm and his father, who was helping to secure the area, attempted to prevent their escape. Stokholm’s father managed to evade the situation just as one of the thieves shouted, “just run him over.” Unfortunately, Aage Stokholm was not as fortunate. The car, traveling at approximately 50 kilometers per hour (about 31 miles per hour), knocked him onto the hood before throwing him several meters away and rolling over him.
Despite suffering serious injuries, Aage Stokholm was deemed to be “okay under the circumstances” thanks to the quick response of his 16-year-old son and a rapidly arriving ambulance. His injuries included ten stitches in his knee and tire marks on his shoulder, but worse consequences were avoided thanks to his reflexes.
Following the incident, police located the driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man, who was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. However, the accomplice in the passenger seat, who encouraged the run-over, remains at large. The stolen item? A pair of camping chairs with cup holders from Harald Nyborg, a Danish retail chain, which Stokholm himself described as absurd in comparison to the incident.
Despite the dramatic occurrence and his physical injuries, Aage Stokholm was able to recover quickly. GrimFest opened as planned on Thursday, and the resilient founder was present to ensure the festival’s success, which runs until Saturday.
