A 33-year-old man from Roskilde, Denmark, has been sentenced to three months of conditional imprisonment for systematically stalking his ex-girlfriend. Over the course of three months, the man sent approximately 300 emails and 200 messages to his former partner via SMS and other messaging platforms. He also threatened her over the phone.
According to information shared by the Mid and West Zealand Prosecutor’s Office (Midt- og Vestsjællands Anklagere) on the social media platform X, the convicted man has accepted his sentence. However, the prosecution is considering appealing the ruling to seek a harsher penalty.
This case is part of a broader trend of increasing stalking incidents in Denmark. Earlier this year, on July 19, a 41-year-old man was charged and taken into custody for stalking his ex-wife, committing violence against her, and even climbing through her window, despite being under a restraining order. He had sent her 285 emails over a period of six weeks.
In another case from April 8, a 55-year-old man was also taken into custody and charged with stalking his ex-girlfriend in Hvidovre, a suburb of Copenhagen. This individual was similarly under a restraining order, which he disregarded.
In response to the rising number of stalking cases, the Danish Stalking Center (Dansk Stalking Center), in collaboration with the police and with financial support from the Victim Fund (Offerfonden), has launched a new app called “Skytsengel,” which translates to “Guardian Angel.” The app is designed to enhance safety for individuals who feel threatened by stalking and allows victims to alert their personal networks in emergencies.
