Dansk Folkeparti’s (Danish People’s Party) Mette Thiesen is currently celebrating a new chapter in her personal life. The former member of Nye Borgerlige (New Right) has found love again. Thiesen confirmed on Friday to the Danish magazine SE og HØR that she is in a new relationship and that she and her partner have been together for some time. “I can confirm that I have a boyfriend, and we have been seeing each other for quite a while. And I am incredibly happy,” she stated to the media. However, for privacy reasons, Thiesen prefers not to share further details about her new partner or their relationship.
Thiesen’s private life has previously attracted media attention, particularly after an incident in November 2022 where her then-boyfriend was expelled from a Nye Borgerlige election party at Christiansborg (the Danish Parliament) due to disruptive behavior. It later emerged that her ex-boyfriend had acted threateningly towards a party employee on several occasions. This turbulent episode led Thiesen to leave Nye Borgerlige shortly after the parliamentary elections, and she now represents Dansk Folkeparti in the Folketing (the Danish Parliament).
In May 2024, Thiesen spoke candidly about her past relationship in an interview with Ude og Hjemme (Out and Home), reflecting on how her ex-boyfriend negatively affected her during a vulnerable moment in her life, eventually causing her to hit rock bottom. “I had to hit rock bottom before I could push off and start to heal and rebuild myself, so I could regain the confidence and self-esteem I had lost along the way,” she shared during the interview.
Today, Mette Thiesen is filled with joy and has spent her summer vacation completely relaxing with her children. The 42-year-old politician is a mother to two boys from a previous relationship.
