A serious fire broke out early Friday evening in an apartment building at Søren Møllers Gade 34 in Randers, Denmark, resulting in the arrest of a man in his mid-30s. The East Jutland Police (Østjyllands Politi) received the first emergency calls regarding the fire at 7:21 PM, with multiple citizens reporting a person on the roof calling for help.
Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to rescue the man from the roof. He was immediately transported to a hospital with smoke inhalation, and according to police duty officer Rene Ludvig, he was “completely black in the face due to the smoke.” The rescued man, who is also a resident of the apartment where the fire originated, has now been arrested and charged with aggravated arson.
Rene Ludvig confirmed the arrest but did not elaborate on the details of the charge. He added that the man’s apartment was “fully engulfed and burned out,” and that the firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring building. The fire was extinguished around 9 PM, and the incident commander is still on site.
As a result of the fire, two residents will need to be temporarily relocated, which they are taking responsibility for themselves. After the fire was extinguished, the apartment was sealed off as part of the investigation.
