A 27-year-old man is set to spend the next four weeks in a psychiatric ward in Randers following suspicions that he set fire to an apartment. The court in Randers has decided to place the man in pre-trial detention after a hearing held on Saturday.
The East Jutland Police (Østjyllands Politi) received multiple reports on Friday evening about a fire in an apartment building located at Søren Møllers Gade 34 in Randers. The first report was received at 7:21 PM, and the fire department quickly responded to the scene.
According to police duty officer Rene Ludvig, the suspect was found on the roof of the building, calling for help, and was subsequently rescued and treated for smoke inhalation. The burning apartment belonged to the man himself, and firefighters battled the flames as they spread to a neighboring apartment before bringing the situation under control around 9:00 PM that same evening. The apartment was completely destroyed, and two people have been temporarily relocated due to the damage.
At this time, the 27-year-old has not yet chosen to comment on the incident.
