Sydsjællands and Lolland-Falster Police are currently investigating a suspicious incident involving three horses in Faxe Municipality, which may indicate a serious violation of animal welfare laws. According to Police Commissioner Jens Jedig Christiansen from the Local Investigation Unit in Næstved, the police received a report on Thursday regarding a possible crime that allegedly took place in a stable.
“We have received a report that three horses have been subjected to something that potentially falls under the animal welfare laws,” stated Jens Jedig Christiansen. The police are not yet able to provide further details about the incident. However, one of the horse owners shared on Facebook that her horse has been “stabbed or cut around the sheath.”
The police have enlisted the help of a veterinarian to examine the affected horses, but there is still uncertainty about exactly what has occurred. “Even though the veterinarian has examined the horses, it is difficult to ascertain the sequence of events. Further investigations are needed to clarify the situation,” explains Jens Jedig Christiansen.
After interviewing the three horse owners on Monday afternoon, the police are still without significant leads. “None of the owners have observed or heard anything unusual. We therefore need help from the public,” Christiansen said, encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact the police at 114.
There is significant concern among social media users regarding the incident. When one user asked if the horse would need to be euthanized due to its injuries, the owner reassured them that the horse would recover.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police hope that the forthcoming examinations will shed more light on this troubling case.
