The yacht “Genesis” avoided sinking in Gudhjem Harbor, thanks to a comprehensive rescue operation that took place today on the Danish island of Bornholm. After the vessel began taking on water around 10 AM, the Bornholm Fire Department (Bornholms Brandvæsen) and the Danish Emergency Management Agency (Beredskabsstyrelsen) worked tirelessly to avert a disaster.
The rescue operation, which included the use of a crane to lift the yacht, was crucial for pumping the water out. Incident commander Per Zarzycki from the Bornholm Fire Department confirmed that the boat is now almost completely drained of water, although a minor leak is still being monitored and addressed. Zarzycki expects the entire operation to be concluded within an hour and a half following his last assessment at 3:50 PM.
“Genesis” is a flybridge yacht capable of accommodating 12 passengers, designed for cruising around the coast of Bornholm. The owner, Baltic Yacht Bornholm, has reported that no individuals have been injured in connection with the incident. This positive outcome has been welcomed by all those involved in the rescue efforts.
