Three 16-year-old girls are facing serious charges of assaulting police officers following an incident at a bar in Copenhagen. The trial against the teenage friends is set to commence on Tuesday in the Copenhagen City Court (Københavns Byret), where they are accused of aggravated assault, assault, and offensive behavior related to an event at Ibiza Bar on Gothersgade shortly after midnight on January 20.
According to the indictment, one of the girls is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly throwing the contents of a drink in the face of a police officer who was on duty at the scene with colleagues. This accused individual is also said to have thrown the empty glass at the same officer, resulting in an injury under the officer’s right eye. Subsequently, the 16-year-old is also accused of kicking two other officers on the shins.
The next girl in the group is accused of pushing one of the officers in the back, while the third girl faces charges for verbal assaults against the police. She reportedly used phrases such as “power-abusing pig” and “fucking pig.”
It remains uncertain how the three girls will respond to the charges when the case is heard in court, but the fact that the trial is scheduled as a jury trial suggests that they are likely to plead not guilty. The prosecution from the Copenhagen Police (Københavns Politi) is seeking not only a prison sentence but also a ban on the girls from participating in nightlife activities for a period of time.
